Most online manual handling training is a video and a quiz. Nobody ever watches you lift. Ours asks you to record three lifts and sends them to a QQI Level 6 Instructor for review — because a certificate that never checked your technique is not worth much when a back goes.
You learn the TILE approach — task, individual, load, environment — and the technique that follows from it. Then you demonstrate it. The practical is graded by a named instructor, and if the technique is not there yet, you are told exactly what to change and you go again.
Manual handling is dealt with specifically in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007. The duty is to avoid hazardous manual handling where you can, and where you cannot, to assess it and train for it.
Anyone can pass a multiple-choice question about bending their knees. The reason we film and grade three lifts is that technique is the only part that actually protects a back — and the only part an online course usually skips.
Practicals are reviewed by a QQI Level 6 Instructor, not marked by software. If a lift is wrong you get told what was wrong and you resubmit.
